Warbirds

I have a lot of love for vintage aircraft, there's something about all that riveted aluminium and those awesome radial engines. I'm fascinated by the acceleration of technology in the war years. With so much at stake, they pushed for lighter, stronger, faster and more firepower.

A rare sight, a B17 firing up at Duxford airfield in the UK. This is Sally B one of the few still airworthy.

B17 flying over a WWII airfield as I'm climbing into a vintage fighter - a visceral experience.

Love the raw power of the Corsair + those folding wings.

The mighty P-51 Mustang. Form follows function as Frank Lloyd Wright would say.

Now there's a display of airpower - P-51 meets B17.

Rear view of the elegant Spitfire. There were overt a dozen spitfires flying that day - more than a squadron.

The SUV of the skies - the Caribou.  Such a powerful workhorse, takeoff and land anywhere. This one was at Avalon airshow last year.

I saw this polished B17, Sentimental Journey at the Grand Canyon last year. Almost took a flight but there was no one else to make up the numbers.
